'Hidden Heroes'

As the director of a small user- led charity, I look forward to this week in the calendar 1-6 June!

Why you ask? Because this week is designated Volunteer week!. This annual event aims to celebrate and say thank you to people who give their time, efforts and resources to make the world a better place. This week restores my faith in humanity!

I love this week for 3 reasons:

  1. I get to say a massive public thank you to all the admin and carer volunteers who support the work of ASNA.

  2. I get to promote the visibility of basic human kindness

  3. I get to celebrate the impact of ASNA as a charity - pain to purpose and passion - with the support of the volunteers who make our work possible

Here it is - THANK YOU to all the ASNA volunteers and all other volunteers far and wide.

A few facts

Over 10 million people stepped up to volunteer during the Covid lock - down period. The majority of these volunteers said they would continue.

In the year ending March 2020, 23% of people aged 16 and over in England took part in formal volunteering at least once a month

Thank you to the people aged 65 - 74 because you are the ones most likely to volunteer. I remember when my father in law retired from his job, he immediately filled his time with volunteering for his local community.

Thank you to all the faith based communities who volunteer tirelessly!

A friend of mind who has a heart for charities described small charities (depending largely on volunteers) as ‘Hidden Heroes’.

So here’s to all the Hidden Heroes out volunteers-

We see you! We need you and We love you!

Thank you to all the volunteers changing the world one step at a time.
